Ingram slays Pistons at buzzer, 95-94.

Brandon Ingram sent the Spurs back to Texas with a win.
The referees may have missed a back-court violation on Derrick Rose for Detroit's final possession, which ultimately led to the put-back lay-in by Andre Drummond (24 points, 21 rebounds, 5 blocks), but nothing could stop Brandon Ingram from taking up the mantle and his place as alpha, fadeaway-jumper for the 1-PT victory at the buzzer, crushing the hearts of the Pistons fans inside Little Caesars Pizza Arena. The Spurs called timeout with 5.0 left on the clock after the controversial sequence, as Coach Popovich was livid on the sidelines.

"I told him to take us home, come what may on that shot," Coach Popovich spoke after the game. "Brandon's come a long way with us so far, and I'm sure his game-winner is all over the web now. Brandon has been working hard on developing some go-to shots, so he deserves all the likes and tweets," Popovich joked and did not mention the blown call by officials.

Blake Griffin was tested tonight, managing 20 points and 11 rebounds with 2 blocs. Derrick Rose looked good as a Piston, a strong first half to finish with 17 points. Reggie Jackson had a rough night, going 2-8, losing the ball during a 9-0 run for the Spurs to salvage the road team's chances after falling behind by ten points in the fourth quarter.

Both Timofey Mosgov & Jarrett Allen played their hearts out tonight, Mosgov with 9 boards and 1 block; Allen had 12 with 2 blocks, making it hard down low for Griffin & Drummond. Dejounte Murray was the driving force in the first half, finishing with 26 points, 5 rebounds & 6 assists with 2 steals and 1 block (forcing a shot clock violation), going 8-15. Ingram finished with 16 points, going 6-16 but impressively 4-4 from the free throw line, keeping the Spurs in the mix down the stretch.

J.R. Smith looked great for the Spurs, dropping 15 points, hitting two threes to boot. Joe Harris was hot early, cooling off in the second half for 9 points (3-7 3PT). Jeremy Lin played well for 9 points. Nik Stauskas hit two clutch 3PT shots and had a huge assist to Allen's layup that put Detroit on the brink, before the Spurs lost control. Avery Bradley had a tough night, going 0-6 (0-3 3PT). Taurean Prince continued to struggle, his timid play as of late and lack of hustle becoming a larger concern for the Spurs.

The Rest: The Spurs shot 41%, overcoming the off night to Detroit's 48%, hitting 7 threes. Detroit went 3/19 from 3PT distance. The Spurs were more aggressive, drawing 22 free throws (only missing four total). They managed to stay within Detroit's interior dominance, 50-70, winning the fast break and bench points, despite being out-rebounded in the second half for an overall tally of 60-44. The crucial aspect was ball control for this victory, as the Spurs only had six turnovers.
