A new decade begins, with a new coherent vision on the horizon.

Versatile wing player Taurean Prince is coming home.
"Coach P. & R.C.", as always, have executed a vision for the team's future as the Spurs move forward from a decade of dominance, with the value of relevancy and success paramount. A three-team trade was made official by the league today, involving the Nets and Rockets.

Taurean Prince, the Hawk-turned-Net, Baylor alum, will be coming to the Spurs in a homecoming acquisition. Prince, during the off-season, hosts youth basketball camps in San Antonio and still holds his home state of Texas close to his heart. He is a diligent, auspicious talent whose career-high 36 points last season raised eyebrows, able to defend well on the perimeter and shoot from beyond the arc, along with driving to the rim. In his exit interview, Prince prioritized effort and visible impact to a team's success over a stat sheet: that centralized focus and heart is highly-sought in San Antonio. Although he will be a restricted free agent after this coming season, it's almost a certainty already that he will be a Spur for the near future, donning #33 once worn by Boris Diaw and other Spur contributors.

In exchange for Prince, the Brooklyn Nets get "clearly the best player in the deal" in T.J. Warren. Acquired mid-season by San Antonio, Warren showcased his perimeter talent and slashing ability. To pry Prince from the Nets, the Spurs had to exchange value and Warren is a more-established similar talent to Prince, as Brooklyn looks to make noise with Kevin Durant & Kyrie Irving in town. Rumored to be on the trade block this summer, expiring marksman Joe Harris will also be joining the silver and black squad, a bonafide 3PT-Shootout featured striker from deep waters that offers a skill that has not been seen since the departure of Danny Green. Harris also holds the #2 record in the league at driving layups, the 6'6" wing, only behind LeBron James.

Harris led the league, making a staggering 47% from 3PT.
A careful player from within the 3PT line, but anything but hesitant (confident stroke) from behind it. San Antonio takes a collective sigh of relief in having a knockdown shooter back on the bench. To supplement the loss of Harris, the Spurs have bid farewell to Iman Shumpert, whose own expiring contract helps Brooklyn stay financially flexible without losing too much contribution compared to Harris. "Iman has been a tremendous value to us during these championship runs, and we wish him well with the highest gratitude," the Spurs press release endeared to Shumpert, as the 29-year-old slasher heads to Brooklyn for the 27-year-old Harris.

With the signing of DeAndre Jordan to a 4 year, 40 million deal, the Nets have suffered rumors after towering and shot-blocking (if not raw) prospect Jarrett Allen told reporters "I plan on starting" when asked about Jordan's arrival, given that DeAndre is close friends with Kevin Durant and has been a starter in the league with the Clippers, Mavericks & Knicks for good reason. As the Nets segue into a 'win now' mentality, parting ways with Allen also sheds any friction that could pose chemistry issues. Allen shocked spectators and thrilled the Nets bench last season as he made highlight blocks on the likes of LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis & Blake Griffin.

Allen, a highly-intelligent, second collegiate prospect out of Texas that joins the Spurs, is very raw in terms of his ability to score down low other than dunks and pick-and-roll, yet boy how the Spurs love project-players. Allen has been dubbed quirky for his interests in technology and video gaming, but his offbeat personality has no factor on his on-court effort and internal desire to hone his craft. He may treat basketball as an occupation and doesn't "want to play basketball forever", but that level of awareness for that thing called life warmed the Spurs on bringing him aboard, as Coach Popovich once took friend Larry Brown out to dinner during the seven-game 2005 NBA Finals and it is well-known how much time Popovich likes to spend with his players, showing them that life isn't just basketball in San Antonio. Allen has tremendous leaping ability, as he will become a highly-valued restricted free agent for the Spurs after a year of development. Allen will wear #31 for the Spurs. In exchange for Allen, the Nets received expiring-contract Kyle O'Quinn with flexibility in mind. "We're sad to see Kyle go, but we know that the Nets are getting a great player and even better person to have in the locker room," Popovich said.

Tucker is all-hustle, with a sweet stroke.
Having tussled with the Houston Rockets over the last several seasons, the Spurs know talent when they see it: P.J. Tucker, a player whose career originally began in college at Texas, then took an early international left turn, eventually finding his way back to the Raptors then Rockets. He can knock down 3's and defend the wing, versatile enough to play both forward positions. The Rockets would not part with Tucker, despite his age of 34 years, without receiving fair compensation. Shortly after the bombshell acquisition of Russell Westbrook to pair with James Harden, Houston gains another veteran playoff-proven talent in Patty Mills in what is clearly the most emotional loss. The Australian Deadeye has been a vital pillar of the Spurs over the last decade, but will surely shine in Houston and shore up their scoring ability as a team. Mills is in the final year of his contract, a most-likely candidate to have his jersey raised in the future for San Antonio, as the last remnant of the old guard heads to Houston.

"Patty, we all known what you meant to our team. Thank you from the deepest place in our San Antonio hearts," Coach Popovich spoke through his teeth. "At the end of the day, business is business and value is value. Houston wanted our best." The Rockets will be free of one year more in Tucker's contract, as Mills' is set to expire, as the Spurs gain some roster ease in a two-year tenure for Tucker.

The time has come for Patty Mills to move on.
"We watched Patty grow into a tremendous player for us, and a great man off the court. A passionate, sincere, warmhearted human being that'll just as soon bomb one right through the other team's eyes. I already know he'll do it to us, not out of revenge but love. We'll miss him," Popovich teared up at the table. Mills took up the mantle after Tony Parker was traded to the Kings and Manu Ginobili hung up his sneakers. With the ascension (and extension) of Dejounte Murray and auspicious summer league showcase by new guard Derrick White, Patty Mills had already spent and would spend more time on the sidelines than befit his all-world talent.

Heading to the Rockets is also Skal Labissiere, fresh off a 3 year, 18 million agreement, in what has become a sign-and-trade as the budding prospect will space the floor for the Rockets and add more height than Tucker. "Skal has grown leaps and bounds here with us; we wish him well in Houston."
